Fingers drumming slightly on the table, an occasional quiet sigh filling the air around him. Erick Rhodes, journalist extraordinaire; sat in one of the many Starbuck's that scattered the Chicago area. Though of all of them, this was definitely his favorite. They made his coffee properly, they made it strong; and the people who worked here were nice. Erick wasn't a grumpy man by any means. He could have his off days like anyone else, but for the most part Erick was pretty friendly and happy. But java was an extremely important part of his life, maybe more so than writing; and they went hand in hand. No java no writing. If he was writing, he had to have java.
Stretching his legs out under the table and proceeding to drum his fingers gently on the table, Erick thought hard on his piece. The story was about the truce. How it was a very balanced thing that couldn't hold up long, but how with the help of everyone it could at least last through a few years. People are too angry and greedy for that, and while Erick didn't know much about his supernatural neighbors; he was sure they were humanistic enough to fall into the category of greed. No one wanted to think about their species or race as being lower than someone elses; and isntead of trying to be equal they wanted to be higher. This caused wars. It happened in religions and races all the time, why not in species too?
Whether the paper would print it or not was the tricky part. If it sounded like it was too much of ones fault; they paper wouldn't. It would be too offensive and the last thing you wanted to do was anger the supernatural beings. But if it was too goody-good no one would want to read it. People loved the thought of a good fight, and would even put up with being insulted a little if it meant reading the degradation of others. However, if you insulted too much; everyone was mad. Taking in another deep breath he let his fingers tap out some more words on his laptop, before taking a walloping swallow of his coffee.
It was almost time for a refill.
